Mission: Forlorn

Matt was still unsure of how things were going to play out now. Cybernetics weren't exactly a new thing; people had been using the things, from low tech to high tech, for literal centuries now. He just never expected to be the recipient of one himself. However, dangerous missions and explosions could have that effect on people. There was going to be some adjustment needed on his part and he wasn't exactly sure how Carmelita felt about it. He knew that right now, she was just happy he was still alive, which he wasn't exactly unhappy about that either... It was, in the grand scheme of things a minor thing and most people likely wouldn't even notice it unless they looked closely. He'd been released from Sickbay, but she had made him promise to wait for her before he slipped out from under the medical staff's proverbial feet.

Carmelita had just finished her last meeting and received their new orders from Starfleet Command. Her next stop was the sickbay of the Artemis and to Matt. She walked in and gave a few greetings to the staff before she found her way to the Marine. “Hello how ya feeling, handsome?” She asked with a smile on her face.

"Better now that you're here honey." He said looking at her with "Aside from some training and calibration for the new eye, I'm free to go."

“Then let’s get you out of here” she kissed him on the cheek.

"Anywhere but here." He agreed sliding off the biobed. "Where to?"

“I figure my quarters are closer to the bridge” she smiled “in case you should need anything while I’m on duty.”

"You sure about that? I might decide I like your quarters better than mine and refuse to go back." He teased.

“We will see how it goes” she smiled at him. “Shall we get out of sickbay before the doctors decide to keep you?”

"Mmm." He agreed and offered his hand to her. "I think I'll give you first dibs on keeping me. If you don't mind a cyborg anyway."

She took his hand and leaned in and kissed him on the cheek “I love you let’s get you home.”

"I love you too." He said and squeezed her hand. "Home sounds good to me."

It didn’t take long for the couple to make it to the Captains quarters. “Lights” she requested as they entered and like always the computer turned on the lights in the room. “Make yourself comfortable. Can I get you anything?”

"How long do you have before you have to be back on the bridge?" He asked as he sat down on the couch.

“About an hour” Carmelita sat beside him. “How are you feeling Matt?” There was a quick pause “and I want a real answer not one of those hard ass Marine answers.”

"I dunno." Matt answered honestly. "It's alot to process, you know? Being a Marine is what I was born to be, worked for it all my life. I've taken some hard hits over the years, physically, mentally, and even career-wise. Now I've got a cyber eye in order to stay in the field, but now that I've got you I'm wondering if the field is where I should be. You've been a widow once already and when we end up getting married, which I feel is inevitable thank you very much," He chuckled at his own words, "I stay in the field its possible it happens again. I'm not built for leading from the rear. I refuse to send my Marines into something that I'm not prepared to go into by their sides."

“Married” Carmelita blinked a few times and stared at him. “I get it” her thoughts went back to the married thing.

"I know, sudden to mention it like that." Matt said running his fingers through her hair. "I love you and you love me, so as our good Commander Wells would point out, that is the next logical step.

Carmelita smiled “I do love you.”

"And I do love you too." Matt smiled in return. "I know I'm not always the easiest to deal with and I'm certainly not always the romantic type. I have to hit the Starbase yet since I've been unconscious and having an eye removed so I haven't had time to find a suitable ring. So, I dunno if this is the time to pop the question or wait for the ring." He admitted.

“The answer is yes” she started kissing her now fiancé.

"I didn't even ask the question yet!" He said with a laugh as he pulled her close.

“Sorry I got excited” she took her face in her hands and kissed him.

"And to think that I thought it might have been too soon."

“Maybe there’s something special about you” she smiled.

"I know you're special anyways." He smiled.
